The best lawyers are not the ones who continue to win cases for their clients. No, the best lawyers are the ones who are able to stop a case from ever going to court. That is what makes Republican lawyer Stephen Jones one of the best in Oklahoma.
Back on October 20, 2010, then Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland was seeking a $100 million in damages from the buyer and sellers of a now-insolvent insurance company, who she claims “looted” the firm with the help of a bank.
Commissioner Kim Holland, acting as receiver for the insolvent Park Avenue Property and Casualty Insurance Co., said the $37.5 million sale of the company was funded with the company's own assets and caused the "one-day demise" of the firm, according to the petition filed in Oklahoma County District Court. The defendants include the seller, Providence Holdings Inc. and seven of its owners or executives; New York banker Charles Antonucci Sr.; and Oppenheimer & Co., its investments director and nine of the firm's board members.
"We have uncovered a highly complex financial scheme of fraud and deceit that placed many policyholders in danger while enriching a few insurance company executives," Holland said.

Jerry Lancaster, owner of Providence Holdings hires power Republican Attorney Stephen Jones to represent him. Stephen Jones is famous for representing Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, as well as, representing JC Watts’ brother who might be getting clemency from Governor Mary Fallin (who Jones also contributed money to).

But he is more famous on this blog for throwing a political party for Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak where Jones’ was able to raise $25,000 from his friends.

Jones was a player linked in the racketeering scheme of former Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher. After the Republican primary I wrote, “Why would the same players who were linked in racketeering with Former Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher also have such an ‘invested’ interest in John Doak’s race for Insurance Commissioner?“
Now, that John Doak beat Kim Holland as Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner, it is the Doak administration that will be responsible to continue the case against Providence Holdings. But, will Insurance Commissioner Doak have the heart to move the case forward knowing his biggest campaign contributor represents the other side?
It sure hope Attorney Stephen Jones has not bought a reprieve for his client; the kind that only money can buy.
Again, the best lawyer is the one who can keep you out of court. Stephen Jones could be the best in the state!
This is something NewsOK, KOCO, or KFOR would never report. Cronyism at its best.
